Advice for installing brick slips
Brick slips are applied directly to the facade or insulation panels. There is a choice of different systems and/or types of insulation panels. For correct processing, we advise you to consult the supplier’s instructions. Below are a number of things to bear in mind when processing MBI brick slips.
- Installing brick slips with a darker colour
- Need for dilation
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Processing brick slips with a dark colour
Dark colours can be used as a brick slip, but require extra attention to the system. Dark colours have a low light reflection factor and therefore become very hot in summer. When choosing a dark colour wall cladding, this must be taken into account in structure of the system. We recommend applying one of the following systems as a guideline:
- a ventilated insulation system,
- a waterproof plate on a wooden framework,
- application of a double mortar fabric layer.
A solid version with EPS insulation is definitely not enough. The insulation will deform due to heating of the brick slips, with the detachment of the brick slips as a result.
PREVENT CRACKING
Also with brick slips dilation joints are necessary
Brick slips are glued to the carrier, in most cases the insulation panels. Panels are subject to change (shrinkage or expansion) and the strips ‘move’ along with this. Fortunately, grout also has a slight flexibility that can intercept these physical properties. However, this is limited.
If the length of a wall (section) is too large, there is a chance that the moving part of the wall will cause tearing that is even visible in the wall cladding. That is why a dilation plan, in which a joint is applied at the right places, is also required with brick slips to prevent the wall sections from becoming too large.
