Style of your garden
The style of your garden determines the colour of your tiles
Before you buy garden tiles, it is important to determine the style of your garden. The colour of the tile plays a major role in this.
- Neutral paving for a modern garden. Neutral garden tiles are the most popular. These come in shades ranging from light grey to black. You won't tire of them quickly, and they are a safe choice for the long term. Our range offers a choice of various garden tiles in different shades of grey. Grey comes in many varieties, each with its own look, so there are many possible variations. Something to bear in mind if you choose anthracite/black: dirt is easily visible on this colour (shoe prints, cat paw prints, etc.). That is inherent to black. When you visit a show garden, the terraces are of course well maintained. In practice, this will not always be the case at home; after all, you have more to do than just clean the terrace. Be aware of this.
- Warm tones such as brown, red and yellow give the garden a warm and romantic feel. It is important to consider the colour of your home so that it matches nicely. In general, you will need to keep your terrace design a little more neutral. This way, you can keep a little bit of summer in your garden even in autumn and winter. When it rains, the colours often become even more intense.
- Beige and cream colours for a Mediterranean garden. After grey, this is the most neutral base. Keep in mind that light colours reflect more sunlight. In some extreme cases, this could blind you. The location of your patio is therefore important. Dirt is more visible on lighter colours than on greyish colours. With lighter colours, you will have to clean your patio more often.
- Dark or light colour? If you have a dark garden, do not choose the darkest colour tiles, as you run the risk of your garden looking gloomy. Is your garden on the sunny side? Then a dark colour garden tile is fine.
Choice of materials
Concrete tile or ceramic?
Roughly speaking, you can choose between two materials: concrete or ceramic. There are two major differences. The first is the surface structure. Although concrete is a very hard material, its surface texture is always more porous than that of ceramic. This makes it easier for dirt to penetrate and algae to adhere. With ceramic, you will have absolutely no problems with this. Ceramic is also many times harder, and therefore more scratch-resistant, than concrete. However, this does come at a price. Ceramic is generally more expensive than concrete. There is also more involved in the installation. We recommend that you seek advice from a specialist retailer or your landscaper.

Trendy or timeless?
There is an enormous choice of colours and designs. The arrival of ceramic garden tiles, including GeoCeramica®, has made the possibilities endless. This has also led to a huge increase in the popularity of gardens. When choosing the colour, you need to ask yourself whether it is a nice trend or whether it will remain timeless in the long term. After all, with a high-quality garden tile, you can enjoy your patio for years to come.
Colours of MBI garden tiles
The top layer of our GeoSteen® garden tiles is basically made from natural materials. This is usually a mix of different types of stone to achieve an attractive and nuanced colour. Each mix has its own colour name. We sometimes use the same mix of ingredients for different series. However, the surface finish of the tile largely determines how the colour is perceived. A smooth top layer looks different from a textured (washed) top layer. In that case, we also give the tile a different colour name to avoid confusion. After all, when these garden tiles are used together, there will always be a visual colour difference.
