Everything you need to know about the GeoSteen® top layer

The secret of GeoSteen®

GeoSteen® decorative paving consists of a base layer and a top layer. The top layer is applied to the base layer in such a way that it blends in, ensuring optimal adhesion and creating an inseparable bond between the top layer and the base layer. The base layer is composed of cement, sand and an aggregate material in the form of gravel or crushed stone. The top layer is composed of naturally coloured granules for an attractive appearance. In addition, the top layer is protected with Protection Plus treatment and the tiles are soft on your feet thanks to FootComfort®.

Colour and structure of the top layer

The top layer, with an average thickness of 10 mm, is composed of fine quartz sand, colourfast natural material and a binding agent. This enables us to create beautiful nuances and compose many different colours. This top layer can have different structures: flat, profiled or textured.

Tile structure flat top layer

Product range Flat

A flat top layer is also referred to as a “closed” top layer. This top layer has the smoothest surface. The word “flat” refers to the top of the tile, which is flat. However, various finishes are possible that result in a completely different appearance under the same name. For example, GeoAntica is an aged stone with a nostalgic character and machine-aged edges, while GeoStretto Plus, thanks to its straight edges without facets, has a very modern look.

Tile structure profiled top layer

Product range Profiled

High-quality finishing processes are used to create relief or patterns in the tile. We call this a profiled top layer. Various high-quality finishing processes are used, particularly in decorative paving for gardens, such as ageing, blasting or brushing.

'Profiled' means that the surface has a unique profile. These surface profiles (also sometimes referred to as relief) certainly differ from each other and range from very fine lines in GeoPiazza to the irregular and varied slate profile of GeoArdesia. In general, this category emphasises variety in combination with playful or clean shadows.

Tile structure structured top layer

Product range Structured

Structured tiles have a coarser surface, ranging from very fine to very coarse. This structure is created by “washing” the products during the process. That is why it is also called a “washed” top layer. This finishing process beautifully accentuates the natural stones. Available in different “grades”. GeoColor 3.0, for example, has a washed but still fine texture.
