Zonnestein Medical Center: Wellness and Sustainability Under One Roof
Zonnestein Medical Center houses several medical specialties under one roof, including four general practitioner practices, a pharmacy, a health clinic and physical therapy. Well-being is central. Not only for people but also the environment. This is evidenced by the choice of sustainable materials.
Sustainability as a starting point
Sustainability is an important principle in the operation of the medical center. By using sustainable materials, the building is 30% more sustainable than required by legislation. Zonnestein has an area of 1824 m2 over 2 floors with a sedum roof and 92 solar panels. The choice of insulation materials, the installation of a heat pump and LED lighting also contribute to sustainability. The steel construction is also circular and the facades incorporate highly durable wood and sustainable concrete bricks.
A modern facade
A combination of sustainable wood and concrete bricks was used for the facade of Zonnestein Medical Center. The concrete brick GeoStylistix is a unique facade brick with a mix of natural minerals that provide beautiful coloration and colorfastness. The facing brick is not only aesthetic, but also extremely dimensionally stable, strong and low maintenance. Because of these properties, the GeoStylistix facade remains beautiful for a long time. The production process is also as sustainable as possible with, among other things, wind energy and conditioning chambers where the concrete cures (i.e. it is not fired).
