Jointing sand for a weed-free patio
Which one should I use when?
Grouting tiles is the solution for a beautiful and long-lasting weed-free patio. MBI offers a wide range of jointing sand for your patio or paving. There is a suitable jointing sand for all types of tiles and substrates. Available in different colours, so there is always a colour to match your tiles or other paving. Our range of jointing sand consists of: weed-free sand, AquaColor Joints, AquaColor Joints 2Drive, Gator XP G2 Sand, Gator Tile Sand, Gator EuroStone and GreenSand. The properties of our range of jointing sand are set out below.
Weed-free jointing sand
Give weeds less chance with our weed-free jointing sand. This jointing sand is 100% weed-free when it comes out of the bag and also has a weed-inhibiting effect. This preventive effect comes from a coating with a high pH value, which prevents weeds from germinating. This coating retains its effectiveness for a long time. MBI Weed-Free Jointing Sand is suitable for all types and sizes of joints. The gradation is so fine that it can even settle into the narrowest joints. Available in three colours: basalt (black), stone grey and neutral (sand colour). Visit one of our dealers.
Environmentally friendly jointing compound
The jointing sand is coloured with organic dyes that do not harm the environment (and is therefore also called Biozand by our dealers).
Tip for long-lasting weed-free paving
Every garden suffers from “drift sand”. This is sand that comes from the surrounding area and also gets into the joints. This sand is obviously not weed-resistant. In the spring, blow the top layer out of the joints (about 4 to 5 mm) or sweep it out and sprinkle a new amount of weed-free jointing sand into the joints. This will keep your patio looking attractive and weed-free for a long time.
Use
Apply the jointing sand dry and only sweep it onto a dry surface. Do not leave any residue.
AquaColor Joints Jointing Compound
Instead of MBI Weed-Free Jointing Sand, you can also opt for a hard joint. MBI has included the high-quality AquaColor Joints in its range especially for this purpose. These joints are hard, do not wash out and are particularly weed-resistant. The joints remain slightly flexible so that they do not crack easily. This jointing compound is recommended for all types of tiles, but especially for ceramic, GeoProArte® and GeoCeramica®. Available in six different colours, such as neutral (sand colour), stone grey, basalt, light grey, dark grey and black. Please note: for best results, use AquaColor Joints on a well-stabilised surface.
AquaColor Joints 2Drive
AquaColor Joints 2Drive has been specially developed for our 6 cm GeoCeramica® for use in driveways. It is particularly suitable for joints of at least 3 mm. It has a larger grain size, is slightly water-permeable and adheres very well to the side of the tile, resulting in a strong joint. AquaColor Joints 2Drive is resistant to frost and de-icing salt and is weed-free.
Please note: for best results, use AquaColor Joints (2Drive) on a well-stabilised surface. Due to its low water permeability, this jointing compound should be applied to a well-drained surface. It is applied wet and is self-compacting.
Gator
Gator XP G2 Jointing sand
A semi-hard polymer-based jointing compound. Jointing is easy: sweep onto dry paving, compact, water and you're done! This jointing compound can be used for joints as small as 2 mm and is widely used for baked clinkers, but is suitable for almost all types of tiles, including ceramic tiles. Due to its water-permeable properties, this jointing compound is best used when the ceramic tiles are laid on a drainage mortar (stabilised substrate). Available in four colours: black, anthracite, ivory and beige.
Gator Nitro and Nitro-X
This jointing material is air-curing and water-permeable. It is a ready-to-use mixture of calibrated sand and a patented resin formula that cures on exposure to air and cures from top to bottom in the joint. The product can be applied in wet or dry weather above 3°C. For use with >3 cm ceramic tiles, concrete blocks and natural stone. If the substrate has poor drainage, Gator Nitro-X can be used. This fine jointing sand is also ideal for terraces, pool decks, walkways and driveways.
Gator EuroStone for the driveway
MBI Gator EuroStone has been specially developed for paving with a higher traffic load (driveways) in combination with clinkers, cobblestones, courtstones and natural stone. It is a semi-hard polymer-based jointing compound and can be used for narrow joints from 2 mm. It has a smaller grain size, is water-repellent and adheres very well to the side of the tile, resulting in a strong joint. It can be used on both water-permeable and water-repellent substrates. It is applied bone dry and is not self-compacting. After sweeping, the stone or tile should be vibrated with a suitable vibrating plate that does not damage the surface. Use sufficient water when re-wetting.
GreenSand
CO2-reducing jointing sand
GreenSand is a grouting sand containing the mineral olivine. This stone has a unique property: it removes carbon dioxide. Through a reaction with the CO2 in the soil and in the air, olivine breaks it down into other elements (such as silicate) that are healthy for plants. This removes CO2 from the air.
Advantages
- Stabilises the pH value of the soil
- Provides important nutrients (magnesium, manganese and iron)
- Prevents soil acidification (no more lime spreading)
- Removes green deposits from stones and tiles
- Prevents slippery conditions on patios and paths
- Removes CO₂ from the air
