Roof terrace tiles

There is no such thing as special roof terrace tiles. In principle, most tiles are suitable for use on a roof terrace, provided they are sufficiently thick (load-bearing capacity). This is because the tiles are preferably laid on adjustable tile supports (and are therefore only supported at the corners or in the centre).

GeoCeramica® decorative paving

GeoCeramica® is ideal for use on adjustable tile supports. A thickness of 4 cm is more than sufficient for use on a private roof terrace. If the roof terrace is subject to professional loads (hotels, restaurants, shopping centres, hospitals, etc.), a minimum thickness of 6 cm is required. Please note that 1 cm ceramic tiles are absolutely not suitable for roof terraces as they are too thin.

Mirage or Triagres ceramic tiles

Ceramic tiles are also very suitable for use as roof terrace tiles. Please note that you should choose an “outdoor tile” for slip resistance. A strong and robust tile for this purpose is 3 cm thick, for example Triagres.

Always choose adjustable tile supports

Always use tile supports for a balcony or roof terrace. This allows moisture to drain away properly from under the tiles. Make sure that the tile supports are adjustable. There are always uneven areas that need to be levelled, as the roof is never 100% flat. This cannot be done with the tiles; tile supports are really necessary for this.

Support for roof terrace tiles

For a 60×60 cm tile, support at the four corners is sufficient. For rectangular tiles, extra support under the longest sides is a must. If half-brick processing is used, this happens automatically. For larger tiles (80×80 and 100×100 cm), both the long sides need extra support, as well as an extra support in the middle. The free span for 80×80 cm tiles should never exceed 40 cm and for 100×100 cm tiles never exceed 50 cm.
