For a beautiful, comfortable and sustainable living space
Responsible business
Our mission is to create a more beautiful, comfortable and sustainable living environment together with our partners when it comes to the interior, facades, streets and gardens. Responsible entrepreneurship means that MBI strives to be good for people and the environment. This includes an active sustainability policy. MBI concretizes this policy on the basis of several pillars:
- focus on products (raw materials, high-quality top layer, other binders);
- focus on process (green energy consumption, reduction of waste flows);
- focus on function (products that are aesthetic and functional/climate adaptive);
- focus on lifespan (application of quality raw materials);
- focus on safety and working conditions.
Guideline BRL K11002
To map environmental performance, MBI uses a transparent determination method. We supply our products at least in accordance with BRL K11002.
Sustainable concrete
We strive to produce bricks with the lowest ECI value (Environmental Cost Indicator) that is possible with the state of the art, without compromising the basic conditions of lifespan and possibility of re-use.
Duraton®: Concrete that has been demonstrably produced in the most sustainable way; with raw materials that demonstrably guarantee long-term sustainability; where products have a guaranteed long term of use with a high-quality top layer.
Reduce CO2 footprint
Reducing our CO2 footprint is part of the policy. We do this, among other things, by generating electricity with our own wind turbines and solar panels. Our internal transport has also completely switched to electrical aids. MBI has also developed the CemSaver® concept, a recipe for fillers that means we use up to 30% less cement in the concrete block. This leads to a CO2 reduction of up to 35% throughout the entire chain of concrete production.
ECI value, the most transparent determination method
Both the ‘Bouwbesluit’ (Building Decree) and the ‘Betonakkoord’ (Concrete Agreement) use the Environmental Cost Indicator (ECI) as an unambiguous benchmark for the environmental performance of building materials. This means one clear determination method that does not assess the individual raw materials, but the entire product and process. The indicator represents the costs that must be incurred to avoid negative environmental effects of one unit of product, which is expressed in euros. MBI strives for the lowest possible ECI value. These values are transparent and can be requested when tendering your project.
