This single-storey bungalow in Heerlen takes the form of a rectangular volume divided horizontally into three bands: a plinth, the central section and the eaves. The façade openings are situated in the central band. The plinth emphasises the difference in height, whilst the eaves create a sense of calm unity.
These bands are emphasised by a distinctive use of GeoStylistix facing bricks. In the plinth and eaves, the facing bricks are laid on their side. In the central section, they are laid flat. The bricks are laid without butt joints, with recessed horizontal joints to further emphasise the horizontal and vertical lines in the brickwork. Rainwater drains are recessed into the brickwork. A Geostylistix in the colour Shaded White was chosen. As a standard Waal-format brick has been used, this creates greater variation in the brick’s colour tones.
