New-build project Ankersmit
In Melle (BE), a new apartment building is located on the site of the former horticultural company of the Ankersmit family. The new-build project is characterised by a special facade envelope. A mix of nuanced grey GeoStylistix bricks and gold-coloured aluminium make this building a picture. The surrounding area is characterised by its natural, green character. The old water tower with the inscription ‘Ankersmit’ was retained as a landmark.
Strong architectural appearance
The client wanted an apartment building with a strong architectural appearance and free of fossil fuels. The architectural firm Abscis Architects took on the task of meeting this strong appearance and sustainability requirement. The building consists of a mix of different types of flats and also offers space for liberal professions.
Attention to image and sustainability
A beam-shaped volume with three storeys, with triangular terraces cut out of the lower two storeys. The third storey has a recessed roof storey with large roof terraces and green roofs. The facade is characterised by horizontal strips and is finished with the long-format facade brick GeoStylistix. The grey-nuanced colour of the stone contrasts beautifully with the exterior joinery consisting of gold-coloured aluminium.
Sustainable construction
In this project, great attention went to sustainability. From high-performance insulation to solar shading by means of architectural canopies, the use of sustainable materials, and underfloor heating with renewable energy by means of air-water heat pumps. This is a future-proof building.
