Winter conditions
Frost and snow
Winters are not so intense anymore. Having a thick layer of snow is not that common anymore and long periods of frost also seem to be a thing of the past. But if it does happen, we would like to help you with tips for your paving in case of frost and snow.
Depending on the type of paving your terrace has been laid with, the slipperiness will also vary. Some garden tiles become slippery faster than others. One tile is more slippery than another and there may also be a substantial difference in moisture absorption. In dry frost, regardless of the tile's moisture absorption, there will be no difference in slipperiness compared to normal weather conditions above zero.
Incidentally, all MBI tiles are frost-resistant!
Slipperiness due to frost
In high humidity, garden tiles with low to no moisture absorption (including ceramic garden tiles) will become slippery faster. Because they do not absorb moisture, the surface layer of moisture freezes on the tile. Caution is advised!
Fighting slipperiness
Should your patio be slippery, the best thing you can do is simply sprinkle salt. Ceramic is insensitive to salt and MBI protects its concrete ornamental paving with Protection Plus. Do not use too much and too often salt as it is not good for living organisms in the garden!
Snow removal
Regardless of the type of ornamental paving in your garden, in case of snow we recommend clearing your terrace and driveway exclusively with a plastic snow plough. Never use a metal or aluminium snow plough. These can have burrs on them and can cause ugly damage to the top layer of your tiles.
