Removal of rust from facade
Formation of rust
Rust stains in concrete bricks and facades are caused by pieces of primal matter that blossom when exposed to oxygen and rain for long periods of time. Concrete consists largely of natural products. Sand and gravel are extracted from sand and gravel pits. Because there is sometimes more in the ground, the sand and gravel may contain iron. These iron particles cannot be seen by the naked eye.
During production, packeting or during the processing of concrete products, the particles are not visible. Despite strict quality standards and controls, it is possible that these primordial particles may be carried along with the raw materials in the concrete mixes and thus in the finished product.
If these particles did end up in a stone and are exposed to oxygen and rain for an extended period of time, the iron may oxidize. This creates a brown stain. This stain does not affect the quality of the products, but can be aesthetically bothersome.
Concrete rust removal
This type of contamination is unfortunately inherent in the raw materials used in concrete products and therefore rust stains are not a reason for complaint.
Of course, there are solutions to remove this contamination from facing bricks.
Lithofin cleaning products can be used on our products and are available from your MBI dealer.
- For rust they recommend Lithofin Rost-Ex
You can blast the surface, preferably glass blasting, which can remove the dirt.
After cleaning, they recommend applying a new hydrophobic coating to the surface of the stones to reduce water penetration into the stone.
Disclaimer
Are you going to use cleaners yourself? Then first try the cleaning product on a less visible spot or a stone that is not in the facade according to the attached instructions. In doubt?
