Mortar utilization MBI facing bricks
MBI has a wide range of facing bricks in different structures and formats. The GeoStylistix, for example, offers an a-typical long format. Ideal for modern architectural buildings. The long format makes this facing brick perfect for the realization of narrow joints. MBI provides a calculation tool for the efficient processing of our facing bricks. Among other things, this calculation tool gives an indication of the mortar consumption for your project.
Calculating mortar consumption
We provide a calculation tool† for calculating mortar consumption. This calculation tool contains several calculators for skim coat mortar, masonry mortar (> 8 mm or >12 mm), thin mortar and adhesive mortar. The result shows not only the estimated mortar consumption*, but also an indication of the number of bricks required**.
Please note: the calculators for jointing mortar and masonry mortar are only suitable for use with GeoStylistix. These are preset based on the 595x95x40 long format, but other GeoStylistix formats can also be entered. The calculators for thin mortar and adhesive mortar can be used for all MBI facing bricks. In addition, the mortar to be used must be suitable for bricks with low water absorption (IW1 = Initial Water Absorption 1), see our mortar recommendations here.

Masonry mortar advice
Place bricks preferably with a seasonal prefabricated masonry mortar. Ask the manufacturer of the masonry mortar for a specified mortar recommendation that includes all conditions for processing the masonry mortar in combination with MBI masonry products. At the construction site, masonry mortar can be manufactured by mixing masonry cement (with plasticizer) and coarse, sharp sand in a ratio of 1:3. Furthermore, you can seek advice on stone processing and maintenance.
