Gable brick bonding under a gable support
Many designs choose to conceal the gable supports/lintels by gluing bricks under them. This is also possible with MBI facing bricks.
Gable brick bonding - when?
This option is usually provided when using GeoStylistix facing brick. The standard packages include ‘stretch’ and ‘head-stretch’ bricks. Under the covering layer of natural stone aggregates is a grey layer of under-concrete. For a more attractive solution, we also make head-stretch (KSK) bricks which are made of through-and-through coating material and are therefore more homogeneous in colour, but the different surfaces will vary slightly from one another due to the method of production.
Adhesives
There are many adhesive systems on the market, but we know from Soudal that they have been tested with positive results in combination with our GeoStylistix bricks. For further questions or information on processing and possibilities, please refer to the adhesive manufacturer Soudal.
Processing facing bricks
A hydrophobic agent (hydrofuge) is added to the Geostylistix coating material as standard. As this type of brick is made of whole-coating, this may affect the adhesion of the adhesive. You can find all information on processing our products in our Masonry Manual.
When processing bricks, it is very important to observe the following:
- Process only dry bricks.
- Leave a small gap of 1 to 2 mm between the bricks. This will allow for expansion or deflection of the support.
- Use the right adhesive and apply according to the adhesive manufacturer's guidelines.
- If possible, provide mechanical securing.
