‘Beton met de luxe uitstraling van natuursteen’

Joost Pennings (Joost Pennings Architect) koos bij het ontwerpen van dit minimalistische woonhuis aan het Vijverparc in Sittard voor strakke lijnen en scherpe contrasten. Met name de luxe uitstraling van GeoStylistix paste volgens Pennings goed bij dit ontwerp. ‘Voor een ander project – de uitbreiding van een bedrijfspand in Nuth – paste ik dit betonsteen al toe op een ronde muur. Het aan brengen ervan was wel wat bewerkelijker dan op een rechte muur…’

Mogelijkheden in de hoogte en de breedte

‘Door de slanke afmetingen, het opzagen in segmenten en de mogelijkheid de stenen koud tegen elkaar te leggen zonder stootvoeg lukte het de ronding te maken en het gewenste resultaat te bereiken’, vervolgt Pennings. ‘Hierdoor zag ik welke mogelijkheden deze steensoort allemaal heeft en wilde ik het ook op dit woonhuis toepassen. GeoStylistix is zeker geen ‘standaard-steen’. Het heeft het robuuste van beton met de uitstraling van natuursteen, in zachtere en vriendelijkere tinten. En kwalitatief doet het niet onder voor gebakken steen.’

Ontwerp tot leven brengen

Pennings werkt als architect conceptmatig. “Ik ontwerp de plattegrond en teken een gebouw ‘van binnen naar buiten”. Mijn signatuur is minimalistisch: wit en grijs zijn vaak de enige accentkleuren in het gevelwerk. Daarnaast zoek ik contrasten in mijn ontwerpen, bijvoorbeeld in het gebruik van oude en nieuwe materialen, en in grove en gladde texturen.’ GeoStylistix is daarom een materiaal dat Pennings graag laat zien aan zijn opdrachtgevers. ‘Ik probeer bij een nieuwe opdracht bij voorkeur een andere kleurstelling uit. Als ik mijn ontwerpen presenteer, maak ik vaak gebruik van een maquette en moodboard. Dan vraag ik MBI om een proefpaneel met voorbeelden van de steensoort. Het ontwerp komt daarmee echt tot leven.

Samenwerking met MBI De Steenmeesters

Volgens Pennings helpt het hem als architect dat een leverancier hem met kennis en kunde bijstaat. ‘Bij MBI ervaar ik deskundigheid en advies over de inzet van het steen. Ik waardeer het gemak van het contact in de samenwerking en afstemming. Ze staan altijd klaar om vragen van de aannemer te beantwoorden. Heel actief en servicegericht.’
